MEDIA ADVISORY

We have received a number of media inquiries regarding the Click It or Ticket television commercials currently airing in South Carolina. Those commercials are unrelated to South Carolina’s occupant restraint program, Buckle Up, South Carolina. The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration purchased air time on television stations, both in South Carolina and around the nation to air the Click It or Ticket commercials promoting the national occupant restraint efforts.

When the South Carolina Legislature outlawed the Click It or Ticket occupant restraint program in South Carolina (SECTION 56‑5‑6525, SC Code of Laws), the S.C. Department of Public Safety changed the name of its occupant restraint efforts to Fasten For Life (now Buckle Up, South Carolina) as well as our public information and enforcement components. The Click It or Ticket name, however, was already in use in other states and is still being used in many states nationwide.

The South Carolina campaign, which is running concurrently with the national campaign, is called Buckle Up, South Carolina. Public safety checkpoints are not being used as part of this campaign, and it is unrelated to the Click It or Ticket commercials running.

If you have further questions about the difference between the two campaigns, please log on to the Buckle Up, South Carolina web site at www.buckleupsc.com or give us a call.
